Sony introduces FE PZ 16-35MM F4 G ultra-compact wide-angle zoom lens

Sony introduces a new FE PZ 16-35MM F4 G (SELP1635G) wide-angle telephoto lens, which expands the company's E-mount lens lineup to 66 models. The new Sony lens is suitable for capturing various types of images and content, from everyday vlogs or filming to distant objects or landscape photography.

Built on Sony's extensive optical expertise, the new lens is the world's lightest full-frame wide-angle zoom lens with a fixed F4 aperture. This lens stands out for its high image quality, advanced autofocus mode and controls that meet the needs of professional photographers. The lens is adapted to compact camera bodies, and its length does not change during focusing and zooming, so it is convenient to use in various situations.

The construction of the FE PZ 16-35MM F4 G lens consists of two AA (advanced aspherical) type lenses, one standard spherical lens, Super ED (extra-low dispersion) and ED optical elements, and one ED type spherical element. This allows you to control color and spatial image distortions throughout the frame throughout the 16-35mm zoom range.

The use of AA cells in an advanced optical design ensures flawless close-up photography and enables focusing from 0.28m at 16mm and 0.24m at 35mm settings with a maximum magnification of 0.23x. In addition, a special lens coating reduces glare and "floating object" effects. At the same time, the aperture of a regular circular shape and the effect of spherical aberration allow you to get shots with a soft, evenly blurred background.

For the first time, the FE PZ 16-35MM F4 G lens in the Alpha series uses as many as 6 original Sony XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors that control the autofocus and zoom functions. The fast, smooth and quiet system gives creators even more freedom when capturing content. When used with Sony's Alpha 1, this lens can maintain accurate autofocus even when shooting at 30 fps continuously.

Focus mode is critical when shooting in slow motion in 4K or 8K resolution. This lens is compatible with Alpha series cameras and can quickly and accurately track fast moving subjects. Powerful XD motors, optimized optical elements, intuitive controls complement the highly accurate autofocus mode while maintaining the compact shape of the lens.

New technologies also reduce focus 'flicker' and image axis shift when zooming in, while ultra-quiet linear motors help eliminate unwanted noise and vibrations. In addition, the constant length of the lens when using the zoom function increases the stability of the whole camera when shooting with a stabilizer.

The lens' focus, zoom and aperture settings can be controlled by turning three rings of different widths on the lens body with your fingers. The different surface of the rings allows them to be distinguished by function without even looking. When filming, the focus and zoom functions can be controlled remotely.

Weighing just 353g, the FE PZ 16-35MM F4 G is a third lighter than the SEL1635Z, and measures 80.5mm and 88.1mm with a 72mm filter. The lens is dust and moisture resistant and its front lens is fluorine coated.

Sony's FE PZ 16-35MM F4 G lens will be available in 2022. in May, its recommended retail price will be around 1,500 euros.
